What are my Plan Options in Milwaukee?
There are different types of plans available, but which to choose all depends on your household situation and your medical needs. If you are living with pre-existing health conditions, you may be turned down for policies from individual health insurance companies. The state law doesn't stop this from happening. If you are accepted for a plan, you may be placed on an exclusion period for up to two years. You will have basic coverage, but no benefits are given for claims regarding your medical conditions.
When you first apply for a policy, the insurer is legally able to look back up to one year of your medical records to determine when your medical conditions were treated or diagnosed; this is done during your first two years of coverage. All private-company insurance policies in the state require an annual open enrollment - this is for those with and without health conditions.
